Project: Design a suite of graphics for an upcoming Sci Fi play at Redwood Curtain Theatre
It’s not often that we get a chance to design something with a true Sci Fi aesthetic, but then along came Marjorie Prime – a play about a futuristic world where hologram technology has advanced to the point that people can have long-term friendships with AI duplicates of loved ones long dead. The play has a real sci-fi edge to it, exploring questions of identity and reality, and it also has a four person cast of local all-stars who would make for good publicity.
For this project we designed poster, Twitter and Facebook covers, a website banner, and a play program cover. The background texture is a combination of neurons overlaid over a nebula. Dramatic lighting on the actors faces created a series of deep shadows which were then used as part of a screen effect in Photoshop. The resulting effect is a universe that peeks through and seems interwoven with the characters. The project took about 2 hours.
