Project: Design a poster for an upcoming murder mystery / thriller at NCRT
We were incredibly lucky with this project to be working with some of our favorite people. Photographer Evan Wisheropp is a master with lighting and recreating the feel of classic photos. In this case we were looking for a classic gritty noir look, similar to his photo from The Hollow in NCRT’s 33rd season.
Also, like in The Hollow, one of our models for this poster was the fantastic Montel Vander Horke III, whose facial expressions are always a joy to design around.
Things that were noteworthy about this project:
We immediately decided to shake things up a bit from recent NCRT posters by putting one of the characters dead center in the shot. NCRT has been using a full information bar along one side of the poster for the last two seasons – for this play I requested permission to try something a little different. We compressed a lot of the information so that more of the emphasis could be directly on the graphic.
Also, if you look incredibly closely the more observant in the audience may note the graphic remnants from grafting a new head onto Megan (in the original photograph she was also making eye contact with the audience.) There are a couple very minor graphic artifacts around the neck area that will be cleaned up before the poster goes to print.
